Create a pet adoptions website?
animalover asked:
I am not an animal shelter or a animal organization, I just want to create a website that helps people find pets for adoptions mainly in my area. Kinda like petfinder….is that allowed? do I need legal documents of any kind? I can create the website myself so that part is not the problem. Thanks
i would not be personally going out to the streets looking for animals to place up for adoption, they would be animals that are in shelters already, I would just provide a search type of site where they can find info on shelters in their area.

Why do people often view adoption as a try out? It’s not a pet you know?
Ryan I asked:
Sometimes I think people adopt just because they want a live talking pet. That’s fine, you are allowed to have a pet; however, adopting a child in replacement for a pet is somewhat cruel.
Few years ago, I over heard a conversation where this girl in her twenties saying that she had adopted a child, did not like how the child behaved so she returned him.
Hell, I feel bad being rejected, imagine for the kid, being rejected twice in his or her lifetime for not being a wanted human being. Their not pets.

Adoption agency that I adopted dog from is withholding my pet from me?
AMBER L asked:
Two years ago I adopted a dog from a no-kill shelter. Last week, I had to leave town to visit my dying grand father, while under my dog-sitters care, they got out and were picked up by a woman. When she could not immediately reach me, she called the number on a tag that I keep on his collar with the adoption agency’s information. The founder came and picked up both dogs from the woman and will not return the dog that I adopted from her shelter. We have an adoption agreement, we have obided by all the clauses. My dogs are my family and they are very much loved. She is resorting to personal reasons on why not to return my dog and it is unfair. Can I obtain an attorney for this? And if so WHAT KIND? THe other dog was returned to me because I did not adopt her from them.. I do not want to seperate the dogs because they are very attached and they are companiions. Please help me!
Yes, I put my trust in someone to care for my dogs as I would, and unfortunately they were very irresponsible. Also, I was very limited in my choices as far who I could pick, as the person would also be staying in my home alone. I was up north off the grid, where there are no landlines or cellphone service, I had to leave town with no notice and had to ask somebody I felt I could trust and they broke that trust, I am very upset at the person, and have not spoken to them since. But what that person allowed to happen, does not speak of how i care for my dogs. The personal reasons have nothing to do with anything ont he contract, I did not violate one thing listed on the contract. The contract does state that a dog can be removed from a home if the contract is violated, but I absolutely did not violate one thing listed there. THe dogs were not under my care when this happened, had they been, I wouldnt be going through this now.
The dog was returned to yesterday! Thank you everybody for all of your help!

I want to start my own pet store?
Kendra asked:
Hi everyone! I have a really good idea for a pet store. Here is what will make it unique:
-Will NOT sell live animals other than fish, mice and rats (snakes gotta eat too!), and some parrots. The mice and rats will be bred by me, mainly as feeders, but not inbred, so they can be bought as pets. And of course I’ll socialize them as babies, I wouldn’t be able to not! Also, the parrots I want to sell are budgies, cockatiels, and perhaps mini macaws. I’m not sure. But they will be bred by me in my home and the cockatiels and other birds will be hand fed by me (not going to sell a ton, just have one or 2 breeding pairs for each type of bird) and the babies will be well socialized.
-I want to set up pet adoption days with the humane society. So they bring in some dogs and/or cats that need homes, and people can come to my store to adopt them! I have seen this at petsmarts and stuff.
-Because I’m not going to have lots of animals (and none from pet mills), I am going to have a directory of breeders in the area for all kinds of animals. That way, people will have an easy resource to find reliable breeders for the pet they want.
-I am also going to have a self-serve dog wash. They are popular to have at car washes, and cheaper than having the dog professionally groomed.
-Also, I will have an agreement with people that do buy the pets I have, if they can not take care of the animal anymore within a year of purchase, I will take the animal back, to help keep pet shelters from overflowing even more.
-I will carry a HUGE selection of supplies and food for all kinds of pets. Reptiles, fish, small pets, dogs, cats, birds, maybe even horses (still pondering that…)
-And many people are worried about their pets safety with toys. I will do my best to provide only safe products for pets.
My second question is, what are some specific brands or products you would like to see in a pet supply store?
Thanks!
I have owned rats, mice, and I am on my 4th bird. And they have all been healthy and well taken care of, so my pets at the store will be also. Plus, I’ll have help with some of the running of the store (mainly from my mom, who would love to work there)
True they can be found in shelters, but, a shelter isn’t likely to adopt out a rat or mouse that is going to be fed to someone’s snake, are they?
Second, many of the parrots in rescues have “emotional baggage” and may have health, temperment, or other problems. Not everyone has the experience (or want) to take those kinds of birds on. Therefore, I will offer a few sweet, socialized, young birds that I breed myself and will only be sent to good homes. Plus, I have the 1 year return policy.

Where to find pets?

Me and my husband are looking for a dog. The only thing is…Shelters charge almost $200 for adoption fees and craigslist doesn’t allow pet postings. Any suggestions?

Do you think some of the pet owners on the board go a little over board?
Sweetseve asked:
I notice the pet responses are overwhelmingly critical. One lady was asking what adult breed she should adopt (from a shelter) and she mentioned that 5 days a week she was out or 9 hours and almost everyone told her not to get a dog. Well.. does that mean any single person with a full time job shouldn’t get a pet? And, even if we’re not working aren’t we all gone for gaps through out the day? Surely adoption and crate training is better than death.. or even adopting a house broken dog?
Has anyone else found the pet answers to be less than reasonable or helpfull?
rather hold it than be put to sleep. Honestly, they didn’t even ask her if it was an indoor dog. But, a dog can re raised to be healthy on your schedule. Also there are breed of dogs you can litter train. There are doggy daycare services. There are so many options other than telling the woman that she shouldn’t adopt an ADULT dog from a kill shelter.
I mean isn’t that a little.. well contridicting?

Can’t find where to buy a Triton Cockatoo?
Turtle Girl asked:
My Fiance and I are getting a Triton Cockatoo. (He has the hands on experience with them, I have the research on them) But I’m finding it near impossible to find any breeders or pet shops that are giving out for adoption. I found that site “birdfarm.com” and that site is great and has Triton Cockatoos, I just wanted to see if there were any more options then just 1 site to choose from. I don’t know if they ship their birds (need to contact them.) I live in a small town in Maine so finding a pet shop that has Triton Cockatoos is so far impossible. Do you know of any online breeding sites, or online pet shops that have the option of flying the bird to us? Thanks!

Where did you get your pet rats?
tobybaby24 asked:
I’m just wondering where people usually get pet rats from- a breeder, adopt from shelter, pet store, etc.? I prefer to adopt all my pets, but there are no rats for adoption anywhere around me. I’d be willing to travel about 2 hours, but the closest shelter with rats is about 5 hours away. Also, I haven’t been able to find any breeders in my area either. I’d rather not go to a pet store. Any suggestions?

What types of questions would you ask for someone adopting your pet?
Veronica asked:
I am moving and have to find new homes for my two cats. Please don’t write me about me keeping them and/or being a bad pet owner because I absolutely can not keep them and yes I hate it.
Anyway, I put an ad out on this Vegas website asking for people to please adopt one of the cats. I am offering a cat carrier and $30 Petco gift card with each cat adoption. The only thing is I want to make sure they are going to good homes without ulterior motives.
What questions would you ask people to ensure this?
Thanks!

Neopets, UC/regular pets for adoption?
Gabrielle B asked:
Heyyy, : D I was wondering if anyone knew a good adoption place to go to so I could find some UC pets for adoption? Or some regular pets, they don’t have to be fancy or good names, I could care less about their names. So if anyone knows an awesome directory please tell me! : D Thanks!

What are the requirements for adopting a pet from your local animal shelter?
bobbiez asked:
I would like to compare them with the rules/regulations in place at the local shelter here. I think something is not quite legitimate about it. I know four people who have applied for different dogs recently; all were turned down for various reasons. None have any history of animal abuse/neglect, all are (as far as I know) responsible, loving pet owners. All had references, a vet., etc. I would like to compare other known rules/regulations regarding adoption with other animal shelters. This shelter just reopened recently. It was closed for awhile for unknown reasons. One friend was told the puppy she applied for had been transfered to another shelter, then they told her the puppy was adopted. By this time we became suspicious, so we checked on the web, only to find out that the puppy was now at another “no-kill” shelter which rescues dogs before they are euthanized. This has raised a lot of questions.
