Where can I adopt a pet rat?
aMaZiNgLyAwEsOmE asked:
I want to adopt a rat, but there is nowhere near Flower Mound, TX that I could find one. I really don’t want to go to Petco, but I will if nobody here can find a breeder/shelter with young/baby female rats for adoption. Flower Mound, TX is near the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and there is nowhere online that I can find current ratterys. Please help me find a pet rat!

Here are some sites that have listings for breeders in Texas. I don’t know if any of them are near you but it’s a start:
Try Google “rat breeder texas” or “rat rescue texas” to find more. Some of them may be willing to drive halfway, doesn’t hurt to ask!
For more information about rat care please visit my website (link in profile) or feel free to email me with any rat-related questions by clicking the link in my profile. Good luck finding a great rat!
Check all pet ad’s,(online and paper) Check all shelters
good luck finding a new buddy!
(preferably ones that carry small mammals etc.mice,
hampters, rabbits, ferrets, rats)or just order one from out of state pet shop.(rats are good pets and there cheap to buy and feed)
There are several rat rescue groups in DFW that will help you.
try petfinder.com
I’m going to Dallas in a few days to check on a few breeders and rescues. I’ll get back to you, if you’d like, and let you know what I find.
Good idea; Petco isn’t the best place to go for a pet (in my opinion). There are several online places (that others have already listed as answers to this question), but with those you should be careful about how the rat is delivered. There are some sources that can safely deliver pets to a new home, but some are very hazardous.
DON”T GO TO PETCO! It is so risky going to a pet store. First of all, try to find a pet store that maybe breeds rats that is not a chain. Ask around at local shelters, if they don’t have rats, they’ll direct you somewhere else. You can try craigslist and petfinder as well. Here is a list of breeders in Vermont, maybe one is near you.
