I’m thinking about volunteering at the adoptions fairs for an animal rescue organization. If I pet other cats and come home with other cats’ scents on my shirt, will my cat react negatively? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’ve never owned a cat before.

It shoudn’t do. I’ve been round my friends and had her dogs and cats on my knee. When I come home my cats have a sniff at me but don’t react.
You may get sniffed more then usual, but your cat wont care for more then about 5 minutes.
I agree… they would probably just be very curius… but I have noticed that dogs act weird around me when I have been ahanging out with cats. you might want to consider that if you work with dogs
I’d be more concerned by inadvertently bringing home a bug cuaght from other cats. Before you leave the voluteer work for the day, make sure to wash your hands with soap and water. Remove your shoes at the door. Take your soiled clothes directly to the laundry or washing machine. Just a precuation - I have heard of completely indoor cats getting infectious cat diseases from people trailing the bug into the home.
It’s possible but cats are very much their own creatures - they like to set their own routines & times for play, hunting or affection. It may not react at all. Or your cat may sulk for a little while but once you reassure it & feed it everything will be fine.
Its ok i’ve seen REALLY dumb questions on the website and yours isnt at all dumb! well i havea a cat (a boy) and sometimes i bring cat scents home if i’m at my uncles house (he has like eight cats…yuck!) and he just smells me and kinda gets…well he just sniffs me forever! but i dont think your cat will act rude or moody at all, and go for the animal rescue thing!
First of all it’s not a dumb question,second of all no they will sniff you for about 5-10 minutes and then they’ll just go away…
Your cat will smell the other animals on you but won’t react negatively. It will probably look at you and wonder where you’ve been but will soon forget about it. no need to worry! By the way, it ain’t a dumb question.
Not a dumb question at all and it’s great that you want to volunteer for something so worthwhile.

I always pet animals when I’m out at friend’s houses or waiting at the vet’s or just see a cat sat on a wall as I walking along. Our four have a good sniff at me when I get home and then go on to the next thing. So, not a worry.
