Where can I buy a guinea pig that’s not from a pet store?
Peach asked:
I live in Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada) and I don’t want to buy a guinea pig from a pet store. I checked the local SPCAs but there aren’t any there.
Any suggestions of shelters or adoption centers near Vancouver?

This is a good site:
Also, check Craigslst/the classifieds in the newspaper. If you don’t see any, leave a post on Craigslist that you are looking for some. Good luck!
A responsible breeder. Do not purchase a pure bred until you see the environment in which they live. How clean, safe, loving it is. Ask to see the mother and father of the gp as wellas you would with buying a dog from a breeder. Ask the breeder many questions and proof they are a breeder, any certificates etc.
An animal shelter is where I would look first. There are many guinea pigs without homes. Ask about the guinea pigs background if info is even available, sex, age, special needs(if any), favorite treats, health, etc.
Or a rescue organization that specializes in just guinea pigs. There are many guinea pig rescues around if you google it. Hopefully some in your area.
Good luck.
You may have to just continue checking the animal shelters and your local newspaper. Also check Craigs List online. Also check the .com site below as does have link to Pet Classifieds where you can usually find what you’re looking for in your area.
