How you can find out what breed your cat is?

Jo asked:

My family just recently adopted a rather fluffy cat.
He was found wandering the streets when the adoption center found him.
I’m just really curious as to what breed he is…not that I care at all, I’m just curious.

Things about him you notice right away:
His pink nose
His VERY fluffy satiny fur that is like heaven to pet
he changes between moods quite often,
he can be super affectionate and lovey for a second,
and the next second he is like RAWR i’m going to eat you!!
and he darts around alot like he’s being chased.
he is lazy sometimes and looks out the window alot.

here’s two pictures of him:

thanks so much!

Check out large books in the library on cats, with plenty of pictures in them and see which cats most resemble your cat in question.

If it doesn’t come with papers, you can never be quite sure. Most shelter cats are the result of random breeding, and can exhibit any characteristics in its DNA. There is a web site you can find with an easy google or yahoo search. Just search for cat fanciers. They have all sorts of links about different breeds. You can look at pictures of champion cats. Insofar as his behavior is concerned, it is basic cat behavior, regardless of breed.

I really can’t tell from the pictures, cause they are not full body. He looks like orange stripe medium hair cat. The adoption center did not id him on your papers? Or they can’t tell u ? Medium hair orange tabby.

okay first I have alot of cat and dog breed knowledge. You cat is Domestic Medium Hair. No special breed such as hymilayian or anything. Sorry to say. And NO your vet CAN NOT tell you what breed it is by doing a blood test. It’s IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

He is ADORABLE first. I’d be pretty sure he’s an American medium hair “GINGER” cat, you know like Morris the cat. I think he looks to be around 2 or 3 years old and has a sweet face. I have a black & white tuxedo kitty who is 10 yrs old and his name is MICKEY MOUSE, but he acts more like goofy.
At any given time day or night Mickey will take off running, looking behind like someone is chasing him..there isn’t. We say Mickeys imaginary friends are over tonight. I love him to death, he keeps me company when I’m alone, I am in a wheelchair. I have a Maine Coon who is gorgeous but a little boring shes too good to run and play with him. You know cats they all have their own personalities.
