Many don’t have web sites, you may have to do it the old fashion way and actually drive down there and look in person.

you might want to look at specific breed rescue organizations if you are looking for a dog… for example greyhound rescue or shih tzu rescue sometimes people aren’t prepared to handle an animal once they purchase it or have to move. I know of one pet owner that wanted to get rid of their pup because it chewed up something.

the spca is a good resource but I found a beautiful purebred ragdoll cat at Feline Rescue in Washington DC (they are a no kill organization with foster parenting).

Happy hunting… I would make sure the dog or cat is best for your family… go take the Yahoo pet breed finder survey and it will help you decide on a breed. Even if you end up with a “mutt” you know what breeds appeal to your needs.

Check the AKC for more information on rescues and breeds.
