Where did you get your pet rats?

tobybaby24 asked:

I’m just wondering where people usually get pet rats from- a breeder, adopt from shelter, pet store, etc.? I prefer to adopt all my pets, but there are no rats for adoption anywhere around me. I’d be willing to travel about 2 hours, but the closest shelter with rats is about 5 hours away. Also, I haven’t been able to find any breeders in my area either. I’d rather not go to a pet store. Any suggestions?

I get my rats from a breeder they are usually used to human contact and are much healthier and friendlier.

I got mine from a pet store. BAD IDEA. The people treated them terrible, they dropped one of the rats as they were putting them into the box. One of the rats always bite, but they will probably do this anyways. I have to train her not to, and the other one is very shy. Ive observed they have mistreated them terribly in pet stores, please get your rats from a breeder.

I always get mine from a breeder =)

I’m sure you could find at least one breeder near your area, it took us a while to find one, but we did.

I like breeders because the animals are healthier and nicer. A rescue place could actually be pretty good, too, because the rats will have already been socialized and it’s good to rescue pets =)

Oh darling, there ARE rats for adoption in your area, I GUARANTEE IT! , rats section, adoption section. Oh yes.

All my kids have been adopted from people via There at goosemoose people will do “trains” to get them to you. One person will drive them for a certain distance and someone else will drive them another distance and so on until they get from point A to point B.
